Fortunately, the game's good sound effects do help make up for its tunes. Seriously, why is this one of the lowest Castlevanias scored? Juste gets stronger as he gains experience by defeating enemies, and in certain sections of the castle, it's simple to just keep whacking the same enemies over and over, thus making yourself far more powerful than you'll think you deserve to be at that point in the game. This is a review of Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA. The game plays ... Read Full Review, THIS WAS THE SECOND INSTALLMENT IN THE SERIES RELEASED ON THE GBA AND IS PART OF THE EXTENSIVE CASTLEVANIA STORY LINE. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, coming in June for Japan, September in America, and October in Europe. Harmony of Dissonance is a great-looking GBA game that offers better visuals than its predecessor--and most other GBA games, for that matter. This game is great, one of my favorites in the series. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon was probably the best of them, as it featured the classic side-scrolling, action-packed gameplay of its numerous predecessors, as well as the open-ended structure of the outstanding Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation. Get the latest news and videos for this game daily, no spam, no fuss. Juste mostly relies on his whip to deal with his enemies, and though you can upgrade it, the whip's attack itself remains basically the same throughout the game--you don't have access to other main weapons like you did in Circle of the Moon. Almost all of the flaws in Harmony of Dissonance can be summed up by saying it tries too hard to be the next Symphony of the Night. However, as a game is more than the sum of its parts, merely reusing some of the parts only makes Harmony seem like a cheap copy rather than a spiritual successor. More like,Castlevania:Harmony of backtracking Dissonance. Despite there being some other issues with the game, most any Castlevania fan would agree that the music in Harmony of Dissonance is really the one thing that absolutely should have been better. Juste has some unique abilities, as well as some that you'll recognize from other games. It's all the excuse anyone would need. The only truly weak spot in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is its soundtrack. More than a year later, another new Castlevania has finally hit the GBA, and by and large it's a worthy successor. There are some other nice extras as well, including a great throwback to the series' roots and the ability to play as a different main character, and it all adds up to make Harmony of Dissonance an excellent value. Read Full Review, The full moon rises, the castle's silhouette is revealed in the shining light, and bats swoop in from the depths of the adventure that awaits the very one who holds it…it sounds like another Castlevania game! And it was portable, to boot. A rather run of the mill entry in the Castlevania series, but still worth playing. The Castlevania adventure continues with this new variation of the classic formula that makes Castlevania games great. In my opinion, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is in many ways a worthy successor of Symphony of the Night as the second Castlevania that involved Koji Igarashi as a direct scenario writer. To start off the graphics wasn't at all cracked to be. Every Castlevania game basically tells the same story. Which is fine, because that formula works great, though it bears mentioning that it does date back at least to 1997's Symphony of the Night or possibly to 1986's Metroid, so don't go in expecting anything other than a tried-and-true nonlinear side-scroller. The game features dozens of different types of enemies, though series veterans will notice that a number of them seem ripped straight from the previous games. After that, the game makes available a boss battle mode in which you fight each of the game's boss monsters one after another. Unfortunately, this move is mostly useless in practice, and it doesn't even look particularly good since Juste stands frozen like a statue while his whip flails about. That game also featured a surprisingly robust magic system that allowed you to combine pairs of special cards for dozens of different effects. It was later re-released as part of a double pack for the handheld with its sequel, Aria of Sorrow, and on the Wii U’s virtual console. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Juste is animated pretty smoothly and looks good in action, though his floaty jump leaves something to be desired. Last year's game was very darkly colored, so much so that the action could be difficult to see even in direct sunlight.
